    Hi
    I need help with timing
    and
what to do with the right strumming hand

    and
knowing what cords to play and when to change cords without writen sheet music

at presant if i watch someones else hands i can play along with them but this makes me slower
if i knew ahead of time when to change to the next cord
I belive this would help some with my timing?

my struming now doesn,t sound good.

sorry i can,t afford to take lessons retired with fixed income.
I like the older style country music

at presant i don,t feel like i am making any inprovements

    thank you
    Tom

I think I have most of the theory and chords down pretty good. I’ve even written my first song. I’m finding he soloing part difficult. how can I build finger/brain coordination and which scales should I learn first?

    Thank You,

user name i think should not be case sensitive, i screwed up and had a hard time remembering how i did my first name with a capital, and my last name with a lower case.

Added by JB: That’s a good point. I will see if that can be accommodated.

    anyway this site will rock..

i wish there was a place where i could learn easy songs all the way through and not just licks , and you are left to struggle the rest yourself so you never do.

Jumping jack flash, acdc fun stuff, ventures , i am open to anything as a begginer that i could learn the whole song.

i would have the time of my life if i could play like 20 songs completely.

    thanks for everything,

    Jeff

I love guitar. I had attended classes 15 years ago. I had a great start with classical guitar but stopped the learning after 2 years because bored and found no good progress with the teaching method in the class eventhough that was one to one lesson.

I hope to find another start on my guitar lesson. I am looking for a way to start from begining to refresh myself.

Hope this blog/forum helps. By the way, which website allow to download guitar song while learning. It is very important to make sure that I got the right tune and timing. Whithout listening and make comparison I may be wrong somewhere.

    Thank you. Edward

JB: The best way is to learn to play along with a cd.

When will you post the Guitar Lessons PDF e-book as mentioned above?

JB: As time permits. I have a few things to get done before I can start writing them and putting them up. I hope to post the first one next week. Then at least one per week after that.

I think it is a great idea to start this site for total beginners. I am teaching my sons to play at the moment and they are looking forward to follow your advice on this site. Please do let us know when you will provide the four items listed above for members.

    We greatly appreciate your work.

We look forward to hearing from you in this respect

    Kind regards,

I have been downloading John’s Pdfs of seven weekly tutorials on guitar Secrets and I really have appreciated the time and the effort that has gone into providing these fantastic tutorials to all of us out there that cannot afford proper guitar lessons. Thank you very much John for your help.

I have been playing guitar since I was a young 12 year old, and I am now in my 50’s and still have a desire to learn even more.
I am now at a stage where I want to learn scale patterns as I have grasped all areas of bass runs pull offs, hammerons etc. Through the Pdf’s provided by John I now understand what I must do to master improvisation.

A lot of people are sometimes confused as to actually where to really begin mastering the scales and it should be made clear and understandable. I am looking forward to this blog and again my thanks for providing all your hard work for us
    guitar loving people.

    Thankyou from guitar girl Ramona

JB: Thanks Ramono. Scales are good for theory understanding. Not so much for soloing. Chord tones are better.

    Hi JB,

I have been playing electric guitar now for just over a year so I guess I am still a beginner.
I have learnt all the open chords and barre chords and have also been doing a bit off soloing over some pentatonic scales.
What i would like to see some easy intermediate chords that are further up the guitar neck, that would not only help me but others as well to get away from the first four frets.

JB: Bar chords are movable along the whole neck. For example, a G bar chord on the 3rd fret. Move it to the 10th fret and it becomes a D chord.

I am looking forward to see your new site take off during the coming months,

    pip.

Hi John, a few ideas, like download mp3 and backing track mp3 to play along to, and some video to watch as we try to play along.

chord diagrams, fretboard diagrams, which can help beginners play slow as they can see what they are playing, then they can speed up in their own time.

reviews on new technology to help pick up the guitar, like guitar pro, and effects, guitars, the list goes on.

as you know i have been a member with your other site for a while and i think it’s great, but you did ask about the new site.

keep up the good work mate
    all the best
    Phil.

Great to hear about your new website.

I’d love ideas for chord progressions to enable me to play full songs. It would be great to impress the family with some nicely rounded pieces, rather than them put up with me running through scales and riffs all the time!

    Looking forward to learning more,

    Adam

I have been playing for guitar for about16 months. I know the basic chords D Dm G E Em A Am C “Country C” some power chords and moveable chords but I seem to be stuck with no fresh routines to play with. I can play parts of a lot of songs but not very many that I can play all the way through. I am looking forward to seeing and hearing somehting new. It seems like I dont Practice more than an hour or two a day before I get bored with the same old same old thing. I have been practicing 3 diferent scales and still find them hard to make the different patterns sound like much. I have good calouses and try hard yet Im stuck. PLease helppppppppppppppppp I cant find any thing here today is there any thing here yet? Steveyrockr

I’m a beginner as well. I really enjoy the guitar and as all my family members play it would be nice to take part. I’m a drummer actually but you can’t lug your entire kit to a beach party or camping so guitar it is :o) .. My biggest hurdle so far has been chord transitions .. I’d like to see some simple runs to use when switching chords and I mean really simple .. Willie Nelsons “Blue Eyes Cryin in the Rain” comes to mind for some reason …

Everybody above is in for a treat. I came over from the JB’s Fretboard Domination site and JB at one time or another has answered or written articles about all of the questions above, especially the questions on pentatonics. I have benefited from JB’s lessons for a little over two years now and I can’t say enough about the information he shares with the public. I don’t know how this site is going to fully work so that will be a surprise for me as well as to all of you. I don’t know if JB is going to shut down his Free Guitar Chord Site.

if it’s still open it will be sort of a preview of what you will receive here. The Free Guitar Chord E-Book is a must for every aspiring guitarist. Remember slow and steady wins the race.

I just signed up for the 30 day trial. I know I will take lessons after that. My question is I went through the first months lessons and want more intermediate stuff. I blew through the first lessons pretty easy since I have been playing guitar for over 15 years. How can I get into the harder stuff?

JB says: It’s a graduated course. New monthly modules become available every 30 days. When you say ‘harder’ stuff, what exactly are you after?

    HI DEAR,
USE METRONOME OR ANY BEAT SEQUENCING SOFTWARE WHILE PRACTICING GUITAR, DETERMINE WHAT YOU ARE GOING TO PLAY, PLAN IT FIRST AND THEN START PLAYING. FOR EXAMPLE, TAKE A CHORD SCALE LIKE “C Dm Em F G Am Bdim” OR YOU CAN MAKE YOUR OWN DRILL. WHAT R U WAITING FOR, START PRACTICING WITH ANY DRUM BEAT YOU LIKE AND TELL ME IF YOU R UNABLE TO NOTICE WITHIN NEXT 20 DAYS. BUT YOU NEED TO PRACTICE AND PRACTICE. TAP YOUR FEET WHILE YOU R PLAYING WITHOUT METRONOME.
    I M SURE IT’LL HELP YOU A LOT…
TILL THEN…… KEEP PRACTICING AND KEEP PRACTICING…
